Just a note, it works well, on my copy of Windows Vista.

Dear Halfdone Development,
I really like Unknown Devices and have been using it for years. It saves a lot of trouble! But I've also seen the guy who stole your code, in the Google results. When I started to use your program on a Dutch hardware forum (hardware.info) for people with driver problems, it was a great success. But other people started copying my "trick to avoid opening the case", which is essentially good, but some time later I noticed a professional support admin there using "Unknown Device Identifier" instead of UKD! I am concerned about this and would like to be updated on the situation & know if there's anything I can do.
All the best,
Arnie

JACQUES DUBOIS AND HUNTERSOFT ARE THIEVES AND FRAUDS

I began reading this story with great interest some years ago and I have just finished all the updates.

Aside from the fact that sometimes certain comments made absolutely no sense and did not even warrant a response, it has been riveting to see with all the gritty detail how each move has been handled.

I would liken it to a good old soap opera and suggest that you might consider it a marketable product in order to reclaim some of the lost revenue.

Sadly, like many things so compelling, it seems to have reached a premature end.

I would like to plead with you to revive the story and bring us up to date, as I notice that there have been many interesting developments not yet mentioned.

The demise of SWREG in the UK, the fact that My Drivers appears once again to be on sale, ironically accessible via the link you have provided, and I notice that your Nemesis has mutated into a cartoon cat and proudly boasts version 5.02 of Huntersoft's flagship product once again available via the link you provide.

All in all, it has been such a heart rending saga with so many unpredictable twists and turns that, dare I even suggest, one might consider Hollywood material.

Might I also suggest you approach the mayor of that great community and consumate professional to play the part of the hero and our cartoon nemesis's namesake, Stallone, play the villain.

I would definitely spend 5 minutes ripping that movie from DVD.

I would just like to send my appreciation to this very useful program. Being a software technician also, I find the predicament (opening up the casing, looking at the chipset and finding it in google) some sort of tiresome and very uneccesary. This tool actually is great - it works. It has actually detected some of the hardware that I use differently from what came with the CD (something like a lost CD driver or a defunct company) but it directs me to the right web site with a driver that ACTUALLY WORKS!

Its great - nuff said.

I downloaded Huntersoft's version because it was the first to show up in google. However, it didn't tell me which devices were the ones which were showing up as unknown! Duh! Dude, If you make your program/source code GPL then the other guy would HAVE to release his as the same. If he didn't then the whole GPL community would be brought to bare on him. You would have a rather large and powerful group behind you. At the very least you would be able to get him from messing with your programs. You might also want to contact the guys at Electronic Frontier Foundation http://www.eff.org see what they have to say about it. Good luck dude!!!!

I saw your special page on the comparison of both Unknown Device identification programmes. After evaluating the two, your Uknown Devices 1.2 and their Unknown Device Identifier 3.01, I noticed that theirs may recognise my USB camera, USB printer and USB mouse and keyboard as well as my Sony DV TR22E(Device Type: IEEE1394). While yours not. Yours is written in Borland C++ Builder, and theirs powered by Borland Delphi. I have good faith that they, Huntersoft programmers, have rewritten the part of codes or translating the code into native Delphi codes concerning reading Windows Registry Hive Enu\PCI, so their Freeware is more competitive to Freebies, I definitely choose theirs. Why not cooperating with Huntersoft and learn how to recognise USB, IEEE devices to enrich your software, I don't suppose that building a SOFT RIP section will do any good to you. Since they have rewrittened the code, and moved on to add new features(such as USB, IEEE1394 recognition and Direct Contact with the hardware manufacturer's website) to the freeware and now it seems to your visiters that rip is only a past history like previous commitment of crime of those people.

Hi Huntersoft, how you doing? Another new version already?

What a sorry tale about the rip-off. This guy should have his genes stomped on, without mercy for double-duping.

Always start savings copies of everything at the first sniff of trouble, and never trust a cheat!

Jack Owens' un-necessarily savage remarks reminds me of some lines from A. E. Housman:
"... the mortal sickness of a mind
too unhappy to be kind ..."

Your Unknown Devices is futile, since it does not recognise the scanner, the digital camera and the usb mass storage on my notebook computer. A sheer piece of junk !

- Yes, it can't see USB devices. But I find that it's not that usefull for that kinda info since I'm sure the scanner, camera and external drive have their brand and model on the device itself. I might add this functionality in the future but I would need to find or create a complete list of all USB devices ids and brands.

Thanks for all your work in helping others know a little bit more about their computers.
